Welcome to our healthcare professional resources section. Here you can find all the resources you will need to support your patients, including videos to support your patients while they wait for their dietitian appointment, a standard presentation for newly diagnosed patients and checklists for reviewing patients.

Videos for newly diagnosed patients

We know that in some areas there are long waiting times to see a dietitian. We’re here to support you and your patients and Nicola, one of our expert dietitians has helped us to create a series of short videos to talk your patients through the basics of the gluten free diet, reading food labels and eating out.

Useful leaflets

When your patients join Coeliac UK they will receive a welcome pack full of information to help them manage their gluten free diet. Below is a series of additional leaflets to help your patients at all stages of their life, that members can download from the website free of charge, or contact the Helpline for a printed version. 

Gluten free diet information 

  • Your gluten free life – a comprehensive booklet explaining how to manage a gluten free diet, what care to expect, and considerations needed when shopping, cooking and eating out. It also gives helpful information to parents on how to manage their child’s diet including starting school, parties and information to give childcare providers.
  • Gluten free checklist – provides a summary of foods that don’t contain gluten, foods that do, and foods they need to check. 

 Supporting children and young people 

A host of information, resources and opportunities for your young patients and their family members and carers to connect with other people diagnosed with coeliac disease. 

Additional leaflets 

  • Osteoporosis – includes information on good sources of calcium in the diet. 
  • Cholesterol – tips on how to lower blood cholesterol and manage a healthy diet.
  • Oats and their role in the gluten free diet.
  • Calcium – requirements and tips for getting enough. 

Publications from other sources 

Nutrition and Diet Resources UK (NDR-UK) – Gluten Free Living – A guide for people living with coeliac disease or dermatitis herpetiformis. This resource was developed with the support of Coeliac UK and can be downloaded by registered dietitians. 

Standard presentation for newly diagnosed patients 

Developed with the support of a working group of NHS dietitians specialising in coeliac disease, we have developed a presentation to help support your newly diagnosed patients. 

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guideline on recognition, assessment and management of coeliac disease for healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care. The guideline outlines the symptoms and patients at risk of coeliac disease and the appropriate blood tests and the exact process to be completed to identify patients with coeliac disease. 

The European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) guidelines for diagnosing coeliac disease in children.These guidelines suggest that in some cases, children with or without symptoms and whose blood tests show a high level of antibodies, may not need a biopsy to confirm diagnosis.

Employees of the NHS involved in the diagnosis and/or management of patients with coeliac disease and/or gluten related conditions. Academics, researchers or students, employed or registered with a university, and have an interest in coeliac disease, gluten related autoimmune conditions and/ or the gluten free diet. After the conference, you can access videos (where permission from the speaker has been given) for each of the talks on our website.

To provide these benefits free of charge to healthcare professionals, we will be asking members to renew on a yearly basis. 

The HCP membership is an exclusive professional membership giving you more targeted and tailored information and support to support you in your profession.   

Yes, you do need to be a healthcare professional to join as an HCP member. You must register with a valid email address, your professional registration number and a work address for validation purposes. 

Previous members have been sent communications over the last few months to join the Network. However, if you missed out on these please log in online using your email address and password and you will be directed to a form to renew your membership. 

Joining is easy. Simply go to www.coeliac.org.uk/hcp-membership and complete the join form. You will be asked for your professional registration number and other details regarding your profession. Once you’ve completed and submitted the join form you’ll receive an email to activate your online account. You’ll have access to our exclusive HCP web pages and be able to update your personal online scrapbook with all the pages and documents that you find the most useful. 

Information on the management of coeliac disease, including new patient appointment and follow up appointment checklists can be found on the Coeliac UK website.
