We want you to feel comfortable talking about gluten free prescriptions with your healthcare provider and suggest looking at our guidelines and taking a copy of our Prescribable Products List to your GP. Then, you can discuss which gluten free staple foods are available to you and understand more about their decision making.
You could also speak with your local dietitian, as they are best placed to advise you on individual nutritional requirements, especially if you’re finding it difficult to follow the gluten free diet.
Gluten free prescriptions not routinely available in your area?
Unfortunately, in England access to gluten free prescriptions depends on where you live. Your local Integrated Care Board (ICB) is responsible for making that decision.
If you live in an area where your ICB has restricted access to the gluten free prescriptions and are still struggling, be sure to speak with your GP or healthcare team. It is at your GP’s discretion to prescribe gluten free products where they feel there is a clinical need.
If gluten free prescriptions have been withdrawn in your area, we would urge you to contact your ICB and local MP to raise your concerns. Your voice matters, and your support will help us strengthen the case for prescribing.
Use our template letter or get in touch with your ICB directly using the information below. You can also find out how to submit a formal complaint, join our campaign, and share your story.
