Changes to diagnostic practice means quicker diagnosis for children

New guidelines on diagnosing children have been published by BSPGHAN) and Coeliac UK.

The biggest shake up in diagnostic practice for coeliac disease in children for 40 years is set out in new guidelines published by the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN) and Coeliac UK.

The new guidelines recommend that children with symptoms and whose blood tests show a high level of antibodies do not need to undergo biopsy to secure diagnosis.

The new recommended approach will aid more accurate diagnosis, help children get treated more quickly and should bring savings to the NHS.
